Web 2.0

In this age of changing technology, libraries do have to keep up in order to be a viable source of information and also to supply the equipment and the technology for those who have to learn skills. The school district where I happen to live has the children starting with SMART boards in elementary school. The children are learning more and faster than ever before. What will the library have for these experienced learners. How will libraries find the funding to keep up?

On the other hand, a British study commissioned by the British Library and the Joint Information Systems Committee states that the "Google Generation" are not very web-literate and that libraries must make step forward. They suggest integrating content and making the interfaces easy to use. There seems to be a wide range of ability between students depending on how much technology they are using in school.

There is a need for well-funded programs. With the large investment made by corporate search engines, is there a way to pool resources with educational entities to have a global impact?
